It is called “Qogri” in Chinese, meaning “high and magnificent”,with an altitude of 8611 meters. It is the second highest peak in the world. It lies at the longitude 76.5C east andlatitude 35.9C north in Tashkorgan County Xinjiang. It is also a bordery peak between China and Pakistan.The north side is in China. In 1902 a British group climbed it for the first time,but they failed.In 1954 a 2-pax Italian group got to the summit from Pakistan side.
In 1982 a Japanese group firstly reached the summit.After the Italian groups,Spain groups, American groups etc succeeded in reaching the summit from Chinese side. .It takes 6-day walking from the jeeps’ stop to BC.On the way to BC you have tocross many rivers and somties you will walk along the rivers.The best period for entry the mountain should be before the beginning of June,and go out of the mountain after the end of August. From June to August the rivers will get flooded.They are difficult and dangerous for personnels and camels to cross. The weather conditions in K2 mountain area are harsh.Every year from May to September the summer wet monsoon comes and it becomes rainy season in this area.The temperature rises,snow melts and and rivers are in flood.It is difficult to enter the mountains.So we have to arrange to enter the mountains in May and the early of June.Then there is water in the rivers,but you can cross them. During July and August it is warm and pleasant climate may last long in the mountains.It is the season for climbing. From September untill the middle of April next year it is windy and freezing cold. It is the non-climbing season.The temperature may raches -50C at the summmit and and wind speed may reach 5 meters K2 Expedition: Option 1: Torugart Pass-Kashgar-K2-Kashgar-Torugart Pass: Day 1: Torugart Pass-Kashgar. Day 2: Drive 300km to Kasghar. *It is the same progarm after Kashgar. K2 Trekking: Option 1 Enter China through Pakistan Day 1: Arrival in Tashkorgan. Day 2: Drive 300km to Kashgar . Day 3: Drive 260km to Yecheng. Day 4: Driv 310km to Ilik. Day 5-10: Trek with camels to BC. Day 11-14 :Trek around BC. Day 15-20: Trek back to Ilik. Day 21: Drive back to Yecheng. Day 22: Drive to Kashgar. Day 23: Sightseeing in Kashgar. Day 24: Drive to Tashkorgan. Day 25: Drive to Sost. Option 2: Enter China through Kyrgyzstan. Day 1: Torugart Pass-Kasghar. *program is the same as Option 1 after Kashgar.
